Hey Reader,
I hope this email finds you sipping on your fall beverage of choice, listening to your favorite autumn playlist, and enjoying this time before cold season really sets in.
The past couple weeks, I noticed a trend in my IG feed - a lot of gentle parenting bashing.
First, was this article from Motherly.
Then @thedailytay crept into my feed with back to back reels humorously critiquing our generation's most popular parenting trend.
And one got so much attention that @ScaryMommy picked it up, wracking up nearly 6,000 comments...
... and it's the comments that really have me concerned (my hubs says "Never Read the Comments," but here we are).
My biggest concern is that the most extreme views are the ones that get social media attention - the ones that don't accurately depict what gentle parenting is.
(Not sure what it is yourself? Check out Ep. 5 of Weaning It, where I deep dive the 4 pillars of gentle parenting based on the book written about it.)
So let's clear a few things up:
- Gentle parents can and should say "no."
- Gentle parenting is not permissive parenting. Your child is not in charge.
- Gentle parents should set boundaries and limits for their kids.
I worry that extreme, inaccurate views will cause us, as well as the next group of new moms to throw up their hands and say, "well that didn't work; what do we do now?"
On the Pod
In this week's solo episode of Weaning It, I dive deeper into this discussion.
- I provide 3 tips to use to decide if parenting advice will benefit you
- Discuss the game changing perspective shift to help you navigate toddler hitting
- Provide a personal example of how I applied gentle parenting techniques to try to get my kid in the bath, how they did not work, and what I did next (spoiler, I made her get in the bath!). But what I did after was the most important part.
- I answer the Q&A of the day: Do your monthly hormone changes impact your child's hormones
- Share my wins & whines of the week
You can listen to the episode now on Apple - HERE
And on Spotify - HERE
I need your help!
I am honored to have five 5 start Apple reviews of the show! But having more will help our audience grow. After listening to this week's episode would you go here and leave a review?
Thank you!!
