Hi Reader,
When I created my quiz last year, I had a fun time brainstorming metaphors for the different parts of the nursing journey. Ultimately for that, I decided upon a plane ride analogy, with the Ready to Wean category being Landing the Plane.
Recently though, a new comparison hit me so deeply, I seriously got a little teary eyed:
The last months of nursing are your Golden Hour of breastfeeding.
Sunsets mark the transition from day to night, symbolizing the passage of time and the changing of seasons.
They represent a shift from activity to rest and symbolize the end of a chapter or the completion of a journey.
They offer a sense of closure, allowing individuals to reflect on the events of the day and prepare for what lies ahead.
And they bring a time of reflection on the past, hope for the new beginnings to come, and connection to all who witness it.
The golden hour is often the most beautiful time of the day, and I truly believe that it should be for your weaning experience as well.
How can you make it a more memorable experience?
You can do so in a way that honors your relationship with your child, that acknowledges your fears and your child's big emotions about it ending. A way that celebrates your accomplishments. A way that makes you feel MORE connected to your child and other moms who have been there too.
Most advice about weaning simply doesn't do this. The goal always seems to be to just get it over with by means of separation or abrupt endings that probably don't feel right to you. At least they didn't to me.
So how can you prepare yourself for your golden hour of nursing?
The best way is to learn gentle weaning strategies BEFORE you are ready to wean.
Some moms come to me just weeks before they hope to wean, and while this is possible, it's harder to do in a gentle, slow way.
Others admit they are afraid to learn about weaning because it makes them feel like they have to commit to a certain timeline, and that they are simply setting themselves up to fail because they don't believe they'll succeed (or that they'll change their minds and feel like they are failing in some way).
And yet others realize that their identity is so intensely connected to being a nursing mom, that they simply don't know who they will be without it.
Next Wednesday 4/17 @ 10am-12pm PT, I am hosting my LIVE Gentle Toddler Weaning Seminar especially for moms who are planning to wean by the end of the year.
We will cover:
How to stay connected when the milk goes away
My 3-step process to set (and hold) a breastfeeding boundary
Night/bedtime weaning
Dropping feeds
All the feelings
Q&A session to answer all your questions!
My way of weaning is different.
It is a clear, step by step process that gives you tools to build your connection with your child in new ways before you even begin to cut nursing sessions.
You will no longer be figuring it out alone.
Imagine what you want the last months of nursing to look like. Imagine laughter and play instead of frustration and tears. Imagine planning how you will celebrate your nursing journey.
Like for real, as a society, we've been taught to put more planning into pretty much every other element of parenting than our last breastfeeding session. Picture the most beautiful ending you can imagine, and the Gentle Toddler Weaning Seminar can get you there.
If you prefer to listen to podcasts on a different platform, just search for Weaning It in any major app. Can't find it? Just reply to the email and I'll send you the link to the app of your choice!
Happy Nursing, and I can't wait to see you at the Seminar!

The Weekly Dispatch Topics from this week Hi Reader, Over the years of helping extended nursing moms, I've found themes and patterns that helped distinguish the needs of a client and how close they actually are to that final nursing session. These patterns led me to create my Extended Breastfeeding Quiz as a free resource to help guide moms struggling to figure out when and how to wean. The 5 categories are not linear, although time nursing is a factor. Similar to the emotional cycle of the...
The Weekly Dispatch Topics from this week Hey Reader, I hope this email finds you sipping on your fall beverage of choice, listening to your favorite autumn playlist, and enjoying this time before cold season really sets in. The past couple weeks, I noticed a trend in my IG feed - a lot of gentle parenting bashing. First, was this article from Motherly. Then @thedailytay crept into my feed with back to back reels humorously critiquing our generation's most popular parenting trend. And one got...
The Weekly Dispatch Topics from this week Hi Reader, This weekend we took the train up the CA coast to Santa Barbara to visit family. They live in a very small town called Los Olivos, which basically has a two block main street that is mostly wine tasting restaurants. Scott's aunt and uncle are now in their 60s and successfully raised 3 boys while both working. So of course I was curious; how did they do it? And the answer was clear: they had a village. You see, in spite of the town being so...
